A place of refreshment and calm in the city centre of Manchester.
Café Central provides:

• a central location for volunteers to meet with the people they are supporting
• a placement for people on ‘unpaid’ work
• opportunities for volunteering
• gaining experience and accreditation in basic catering skills

Cafe Central is the hub of GMCC. Its a public space where volunteers & their mentees can meet. We offer a wide range of activities, art & crafts, IT for beginners, literacy & numeracy, hat making and Colin is starting a group that will make blankets for people in Manchester who need a ‘hug’. They are knitted by volunteers, taken to hospitals & given to people who are in need of comfort.

Danny, our new Project Manager, works tenasciously behind the scenes linking clients & volunteers & finding funding to keep us running.

Cafe Central is a safe environment that engenders good will. Drew & Michael run an advice service helping men & women with housing, benefits & employment. Our IT suite is run by Paul, Ian & Jean & on most days you will find several volunteers giving a helping hand.

The Cafe is run by a team of dedicated volunteers who serve hot & cold home made food (free for volunteers & clients) & drinks. At our last Environmental Health Inspection we were awarded 4 stars!!! Our prices are very competitive as making a profit is not our priority. We manage to keep running by donations & members of the public who come back regularly.

On Thursday afternoon GMCC chaplain, Arthur Whillans & his tireless wife Marleen (link worker at Manchester prison) hold reflection time in the chapel. This is a time for prayer & giving thanks. Our ethos is to work holistically with all the people who come to GMCC & it’s a testament that the men & women, we are given the privilege to walk alongside, come back week after week.
