Michael Dagley
INFORMATION ADVICE & GUIDANCE UPDATE.
Michael Dagley has volunteered at GMCC for nearly a year. He helps out in our IT room & more recently has joined our IAG team. GMCC sourced funding for Michael to do a diploma in IAG & this week he had his first dedicated client. Peter ****** knew about GMCC through Arthur at Manchester prison. On Thursday morning Peter came into the cafe looking a little worse for wear having been sleeping rough for 2 days. He had nowhere to live & was not in receipt of benefits.
Michael got him something to drink & Nicola, one of our cafe volunteers, made him some breakfast. Michael filled out a referral form & started the long process of finding Peter somewhere to stay. Thursday is our busiest day so I only got to speak with Michael a few times. By the time it came to closing the cafe Michael had made Peter a fresh claim for benefits, got him a sick note & repeat prescription & a place to stay!
When everyone had left myself & Danny sat down with Michael & asked him how his day had gone. Michael was beaming when he said ” It’s a great feeling knowing that Peter has somewhere safe to sleep tonight…I feel so good being able to help him”.
This is just one story from one volunteer out of hundreds. I would invite anybody to volunteer for GMCC…but be prepared to feel guilty…it doesn’t seem right that a volunteer should take so much away from GMCC!!!

On Saturday 7th May myself, Danny & Arthur delivered another volunteer training day. The attendance & feed back was amazing. We are blessed that so many people from such diverse lives wish to support our clients & give their time so freely.
Fay
All at GMCC would like to welcome Fay to our ever growing team. Fay is with us for twenty hours a week for nine weeks. Fay is hoping to work for the probation service & is gaining some valuable experience by helping to deliver a literacy & numeracy course ( in partnership with Salford college, Greater Manchester Probation & GMCC ) at Salford probation office.
MENTORING COURSE.
GMCC in conjunction with Manchester College, ESF & LSC are now offering all of our volunteers & staff a Workplace Mentoring Scheme course. On Tuesday 17th May myself & ten volunteers are attending this course. This course is certified by Manchester college.
